Spongebob Squarepants

January 29th, 2007

This show rules. Way more than I ever thought. The Evil Toddlers are watching an episode, right now, and the background music is Motorhead!

This is great educational TV. Children must learn to expand their musical horizons beyond the Backyardigans.

no shovels or ice melt in town

January 12th, 2007

Are you all tired of trying to find a snow shovel or ice melt? I’m sure you are. The stores have been selling out in minutes. People are buying 2 or more shovels at a time, I’m not sure why. And the same for ice melt. Many stores are claiming to sell out 9 pallets of the stuff in an hour. I know this isn’t true, because I’ve stood in line at these stores. No one works that fast at Lowe’s. There’s no way they can ring up that many bags that fast.

Well, there’s this new thing out there, called the internet. You can order these things online and get them in about a week. Yes, you may have to pay shipping, but it’s better than running around when you have better things to do.

Daddy and Daughter day

January 8th, 2007

Last Saturday was a daddy/daughter day. Titus was in the hospital due to some weird complications. We now think he may have had whooping cough. But that’s because of that evil hypocondriac website webMD. More about this later.

So, the Ganoosh and I set off for a day of fun and adventure. It started off with a wonderful breakfast of Cap’n Crunch. )That stuff is amazing. You can leave a box open for two days and it does not go stale.) Then I let her watch a bunch of TV. After awhile she left and did some coloring and playing in her room. At one point I realized that it got really quiet. Too quiet. So I got up to look for her. As I get up, I hear the theme to the Godfather. Hmmm. Then I get to her room and realize that I’m hearing it in my head. I open her door a little more and look in. There she is, asleep on her bed. Then I see it. THERE IS A HORSE HEAD IN HER BED! AAAHHHHH!!!!! Oh, it’s only her little stick pony.

So, she wakes up and we head to the mall. Girls love the mall. We get there and have lunch at Del Taco. Then walk to a few stores to look for a sweatshirt for daddy. She spots the merry-go-round and demands a ride. That’s great. A simple thing to keep her happy. Now it’s time to leave and we walk out to the car. As I put her in, she grabs my hat, throws it to the other side of the car and says, “Where’s your hat daddy?” WHAT THE HECK?! Who taught this child to bully people? At 2 and a half she is already playing keep away. Not only that, but she’s picking on her daddy. The one that just took her on a merry go round and let her have great food! We will be working on that.

So, we head home and she needs another nap. That’s fine because now daddy can watch Gleaming the Cube for a second time.

A couple hours later we head out again. Now we’re at another store and she sees an Xbox controller and says, “Oh wow, wook at dat and it’s my favorite cowor, bwack” HUH?! Since when do 2 year olds have a favorite color? So she tells everyone that walks by, that it is black and her favorite color.

Now I’m looking at other items and she sees a stuffed turtle on the ground and picks it up saying “Wook daddy a bunny.” I tell her it’s a turtle and she says “Oh. Can I have it?” and does that dang eye thing that girls do, that men fall for. She now has another stuffed animal.

Then we head to a sports bar to pick up dinner. (Like the good meals she’s getting?) As we walk in, there is a man wearing a cowboy hat. She turns to him and says, in her cartoon girly voice, ”Howdy partner”. The man just about fell off his bar stool. I’m sure both alcohol and her comment were factors in this.

It seems that Liana is coming into her own and developing quite the personality. As I’ve said many times before, Titus will have a lot to live up to. HA HA.

Mayor Chavez grades snow removal

January 5th, 2007

Mayor Chavez gave the city of Albuquerque a “B+” for it’s response for snow removal. No wonder our schools rate exceedingly low in performance. A “B+”? Give me a break. To me, that would mean most streets were passable. Well, they were if you had a 4 wheel drive vehicle. All week long, I saw accidents due to ice and snow. Four accidents were within 200 feet of each other.

How can he think they did that good of a job, when the schools have been closed for a week, DUE TO ICE AND SNOW ON THE ROADS! That high of a grade would mean that there was very little left on the roads.

I give the citizens of Albuquerque an “A” for the fact that many rented equipment and paid for it themselves, to clear off the streets! The city will probably sue them, claiming they wrecked the asphalt.

Ellison and Washington streets were scraped by a local company that rented a front end loader. He also scraped our driveways and parking lots. Thank You! The Smiths in the Mountain Run shopping center, was cleared by a non city worker. One guy had a plow on the front of his quad and worked on clearing Malaguena and other streets in that area along with a gentleman and his own front end loader!

Yet the Mayor couldn’t think “outside the box” enough to equip our city vehicles with removable plows. Mr. Mayor, I give you and the city a “D” for how the snow removal was handled. Oh well, at least our city workers had a good break and are rested for this whopping 2″ we should get today. Wouldn’t want city workers to earn their pay or anything.

BTW, I’ll gladly take the ticket for the snow on the sidewalk in front of my house. That is if an officer can get there with the 3 inches of ice covering my street, still. Maybe, the city can scrape my street so they can come by to give me a ticket.

What a stupid law

January 4th, 2007

So I just received an email from a coworker, that referenced a law in Albuquerque that says residents are to keep their sidewalks free from snow. Here is a copy from the local news.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — You may not be familiar with this winter city ordinance after years of drought and small snow storms, but it states that Albuquerque residents must keep the sidewalks in front of their homes clear of snow and ice-free.

As city crews work hard to clear the streets of snow and ice, city leaders urged homeowners to switch focus from getting their cars on the road to making room for pedestrians on the sidewalk.

The city does understand that Abuquerque has a shortage of snow shoveling and ice melting equipment so there will not be any fines for those residents who do not act on the ordinance. They just hope that everyone will pitch in and clear a path for those wanting to walk.

What a bunch of crud. Why bring it up if it’s no big deal? The city is “resting” the road crews so they can be prepared for the next storm (that will only bring an inch or so.)

Mayor Chavez is a nut. Why not ask the state to give us some of that “budget surplus” to pay for more people and equipment to clear the roads? Or is that too simple and wise of a solution?
