Great party, but why you hating on me?

April 29th, 2007

Thank you to all that made it to the evil toddlers party. It was a great time and the kids loved it. I didn’t think there were that many, until I had to do all the dishes this morning.

As for the why you hating on me, comment. We’re a nice family, we treat you all very politely, we even invited you over to eat our food and drink our beverages. Then you had to go and do things like; getting my daughter a microphone and getting mini T and chicken on a tractor that plays the most obnoxious song and clucks. What’s up with that? Oh and I remember who got these items for our children so don’t think that I won’t repay in kind.

In closing I want to say a big thank you to all of you that came. The children really did enjoy it and we did too. It was really fun to meet new neighbors and to see old friends. Thank you very much!

Not sure how to feel

April 23rd, 2007

A big bike store has opened up in Albuquerque. I’ve never been a fan of this particular company, so I’m actually not going to mention their name, plus they get more than enough free advertising. Also, in respect to the little LBS’s (Local Bike Shops) that I support, like Fat Tire, Two Wheel Drive, ABC and others.

Sure they’ll have a bigger selection and also some bike that you’ve never heard of. But the feeling of knowing the people that are working on your beloved steed, will be gone. Hanging out and talking about trails, races, watching cool videos and more importantly the feeling that someone cares about you and your bike will be missing.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LIANA!!

April 23rd, 2007

Today is Liana’s 3rd birthday and she was very excited this morning.

I was in the bathroom, shaving, when I heard “OH MY, Are deese for me?” In the sweetest little girl voice you can imagine. We let her open a couple presents this morning, will let her open more tonight and hold off on one or two for this saturday for the party.

birthdays approaching fast

April 20th, 2007

WOW!, Liana turns 3 years old on April 23rd and Titus has his first birthday only 10 days later on May 2nd. They are growing up fast!!!

Oh and mini T says he would like new 8″ dragon design disc brake rotors from www.dirtydogmtb.com for “his” bike. Funny, he has only started crawling and doesn’t own a bike yet. Hmmm…..

Just when you thought it was safe to put stuff on the lower shelves

April 20th, 2007

Mini T has started crawling. Finally! This is a little late, per se, as in he should’ve started a while ago, but at least he is mobile. It was bad enough that we took him to “therapy” to help encourage him to crawl. It seems to have helped and I think the fact that the place that he goes to for daycare, has brought in a baby that is crawling already. So I think he felt encouraged. That or he’s a competitive chauvanist and didn’t want to be shown up by a girl, who’s already crawling.

This is a good great thing, although now we must go through the whole baby proofing process, again. Hmm, I wonder were that baby gate is.

Prius fails emissions and more

April 16th, 2007

CNN had a report on the Prius hybrid. Turns out that it fails emissions tests. Sounds funny when you say it real fast, that gas/electric hybrid fails emissions. Well, it’s because the engine shuts off and it switches to electric, if the car is going below a certain rate of speed. Zero, it turns out, is below that rate of speed. Therefore the engine shuts down and the motor kicks in and causes the car to fail.

Well, that’s not all. They pose a danger that no one has thought about, until now. Sure we’ve heard about the potential to catch fire if they are in an accident. We’ve also heard about the problems with disposing of the batteries. Here’s a new one. How about the fact that they are very quiet? So what, you say? Well, imagine walking down a parking lot and getting hit by one, because it backed into you. All because you did not hear the engine or exhaust noise and walked behind it as it was backing out.

I am accustomed to hearing the engine noise and using that to tell me that this car may back out and I should wait. But on these Prius’s, they are so quiet that you don’t know they are “running”. So you keep walking behind it and it backs into you.

They should really make them have a bell or some sort of noise making device, like a forklift or trash truck, has.

1st birthday for mini-T and food allergies

April 7th, 2007

This is so sad, to me. As you know, Titus has a few fod allergies. They are, as far as we know; egg, milk and soy.

Well that makes it tough for a cake, doesn’t it. Even though he will only be 1 year old on his birthday and has no idea of how good cake is, let alone what cake is, he still needs one to destroy. It’s kind of a family thing, to give a cake to the birthday child and let them wreck it on their first birthday. But with Titus, this could harm him, and probably worse. We won’t discuss the “worse” in this post.

I never thought we would have this problem with our children. Neither Anna nor I have any food allergies that we know of. So this is making life tough. From the elecare that he must have to this birthday cake issue. Heck, even our brand new carpet causes issues for Titus.

Thanks to some good friends at www.bibleforums.org and searching on www.google.com, I have found some great recipes.

Hopefully Titus will have a cake that he can harm and yet will not harm him.

If you know of any recipes that are egg, milk and soy free, please feel free to post them. Also, if you have a website, add it to the post and I will put it up on here to get you a little more visibility. For all 10 people that read this site.

Here’s one that I found that looks really good.

3 cups cake flour
1 3/4 cups sugar
1 1/4 cups water
1/2 cup shortening
3 T. water, 3 T. oil, 2 tsp. baking powder; mixed together
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour two cake pans. In a large bowl, combine all ingredients. Using an electric mixer, beat until well mixed, approximately 4 minutes. Pour batter into cake pans. Bake 40 to 45 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pans 10 minutes before removing to wire racks. Frost when completely cooled.

Note:
Baking powder is intentionally listed twice in this recipe. The combination of 3 T. water, 3 T. oil, 2 tsp. baking powder; mixed together is the substitution for 2 eggs.
