What a stupid law
So I just received an email from a coworker, that referenced a law in Albuquerque that says residents are to keep their sidewalks free from snow. Here is a copy from the local news.
As city crews work hard to clear the streets of snow and ice, city leaders urged homeowners to switch focus from getting their cars on the road to making room for pedestrians on the sidewalk.
The city does understand that Abuquerque has a shortage of snow shoveling and ice melting equipment so there will not be any fines for those residents who do not act on the ordinance. They just hope that everyone will pitch in and clear a path for those wanting to walk.Â
Â
What a bunch of crud. Why bring it up if it’s no big deal? The city is “resting” the road crews so they can be prepared for the next storm (that will only bring an inch or so.)
Â
Mayor Chavez is a nut. Why not ask the state to give us some of that “budget surplus” to pay for more people and equipment to clear the roads? Or is that too simple and wise of a solution?

That’s slick (no pun intended). I especially liked how they said “city crews work hard to clear the streets of snow and ice”. Evidentally, that means JUST bus routes. And, even not that well. What a joke. I read an editorial in Monday’s newspaper where a resident was annoyed b/c of the road troubles following this snow storm. They pointed out that, yet again, the city failed to keep even primary roads clear, even though they knew well in advance that this was going to be a big storm. They finished their comments by saying they figured it wasn’t the city’s fault because they city had spent all its budget enforcing the new pet laws.
I got your voicemail, Todd, but I lost the number. Call again. I’ll be your friend.
